The Invention Liaison Program (ILP) is an educational initiative for the research and clinical community at BWH and MGH. The program provides a small network of faculty, the ILP Liaisons, who work with the Research and Licensing office to be a peer-to-peer resource to BWH and MGH investigators on aspects of technology commercialization.
The goal of the program is to support innovation in the community by providing guidance to investigators interested in -
(i) evaluation of the inventive aspects of their discoveries
(ii) the process of protecting intellectual property
(iii) guidance on potential commercialization paths for their inventions
(iv) understanding issues of technology transfer and working with industry.
The ILP Liaisons are MGH and BWH faculty and seasoned inventors who have gained insight into the various aspects of intellectual property protection and technology transfer by being involved in the process of commercialization for their own discoveries. The Liaisons have committed to share this experience and insight with other investigators at MGH and BWH regardless of institutional affiliation.
The five Program Liaisons offer expertise for inventions in different technology areas, including software, medical devices, diagnostics & therapeutic, and medicine & biology. The Research and Licensing staff works closely with the Program Liaisons to connect investigators to the appropriate Program Liaison and work as a team to proactively help investigators find the right path for the commercialization of their ideas and inventions. The Program Liaisons have committed to work across institutional lines in this effort.
Investigators at BWH and MGH are invited to contact an ILP Liaison directly or through the RVL staff for a confidential conversation to discuss their ideas and inventions.
The following is a list of the ILP Liaisons with their contact information and links to their bios, so you can contact the most appropriate ILP Liaisons for your needs, regardless of institutional affiliation.
Additional questions related to selecting the right Liaison for consultation or the ILP process may be directed to Seema Basu at ssbasu@partners.org or 617 954 9337.
Additional support for this program is provided by the MGH Office of Research Career Development (ORCD), BWH Office of Research Careers and the BRI.
